Travel for medical care — medical flights & charity options

Transportation
Review a charity flight request

Was this information right?

What this program is

These are condition-specific medical-travel options, not a general airfare benefit. Medicaid can arrange medically necessary, prior-approved commercial air travel to specialty care through Medical Answering Services (MAS): https://www.medanswering.com/enrollees/modes-of-transit/. Eligible United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) travel pay can reimburse preapproved plane fares: https://www.va.gov/resources/reimbursed-va-travel-expenses-and-mileage-rate/.

  • Charity: Angel Flight East arranges free flights for medically stable, ambulatory patients who can board a small aircraft and sit upright; Northeastern United States journeys are generally 100–1,000 miles. https://angelflighteast.org/passenger/request-a-flight.html
  • Charity: Corporate Angel Network arranges no-cost available corporate seats for qualifying cancer patients and bone-marrow or stem-cell donors and recipients. Financial need is not the criterion. Patients must meet medical-safety and mobility rules; flights cannot be guaranteed. https://www.corpangelnetwork.org/patient-eligibility
  • Charity: SkyHope, formerly Patient AirLift Services (PALS), is based in Farmingdale, New York, and arranges free flights for patients unable to afford or fly commercially. Passengers must be ambulatory, sit upright and board with limited assistance. Ground transportation is generally the patient's responsibility. Call 888-818-1231 or visit https://skyhope.org/.

Charity flights depend on eligibility and availability and are never guaranteed; these are not emergency air-ambulance services.

Who can get it
