Help that may fit your situation
Getting to required activities — Human Resources Administration (HRA) transport support
Was this information right?
What this program is
New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) describes transportation and child-care expenses for eligible Cash Assistance clients in approved work or educational activities. Wellness, Comprehensive Assessment, Rehabilitation and Employment (WeCARE) supports Cash Assistance clients facing medical, psychological or substance-use barriers; Benefits Access Centers can make referrals. The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) Employment Manual Section 385.4 requires appropriate transportation provision or reimbursement for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) employment-and-training participants, with transportation reimbursement capped at $25 per person per month in that context. This is not a cap on all Cash Assistance transportation support.
Who can get it
Support is tied to the approved activity, local employment plan and program rules, not unrestricted personal travel. Ask the caseworker about your assignment and transportation needs.
How to apply
Ask your caseworker or Benefits Access Center about necessary public transportation for assigned activities. Official Cash Assistance guidance: https://www.nyc.gov/site/hra/help/cash-assistance.page. Supportive-services rules: https://otda.ny.gov/resources/employment-manual/Section-385-4.pdf
